Dubuque Telegraph Herald features RIITA Members
In a series of articles, Craig Reber, Staff Writer for the Dubuque Telegraph Herald, focused on some of the issues facing the locally owned, independent telephone companies. The articles appeared in mid-February. RIITA members that were featured included LaMotte Telephone Company, Alpine Communications in Elkader, Cascade Communications and Bernard Telephone Company.
Des Moines Register Explores Broadband Plan
A February 4 article appeard in the Des Moines Register discussing the pros and cons of broadband deployment in rural areas. The article noted the high percentage of broadband deployment across the state, but quoted some officials regarding their concern on the emphasis on speed when many Americans cannot afford the service or simply don't have computers at home. RIITA Executive Director Sheila Navis was cited in the article noting that the independent companies have done a great job in broadband deployment, but consumer demand is still a challenge.
